Padlet for Collaboration and Sharing
is a collaborative online pin board that faculty can integrate into their courses to help students share content with each other. With Padlet, you can create a private space where students securely share words, images, videos, and other file types in a visually engaging way.

Want to Use Padlet?
Easily get started by using your university email address. After signing up, you'll receive a verification email with a code to complete your registration. Once your account is set up, you can create, share, and contribute to unlimited padlets using your university account. If you are a faculty member who regularly needs additional features, feel free to reach out to IDS to request a review of your permissions.

Padlet FAQs
How do I create a Padlet?
If you're new to Padlet, you can sign up on the . After signing up with your SU email, you will receive a verification email with a code to complete your registration.
Once you've set up your account and signed in, please review these carefully, especially the instruction on the share/privacy settings to make sure students will have access to your board.
How do I configure my Padlet’s privacy settings?
To make sure your students can view and add content, you'll need to set up your Padlet's privacy and permissions correctly. Please review from for details of the different share settings.
When you're ready share or embed your Padlet. Click on the Share settings and choose whether students must log in with their SU email address to participate in your class Padlet.
Option 1: No login required
- Set "Visitors with a link" to "Write."
- Then ask that students include their names when they add a post to the Padlet.
Option 2: Login required
- Set "Visitors with a link" to either "No access" or "Reader."
- Then set "ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø members" to "Writer."
Other Optional Security Settings
We haven't seen any cases of “Padlet bombing,” but it's still a good idea to be mindful when sharing your Padlet link. For extra security, you can enable the following options:
- Require Password or Require visitors to log in. Go to Share options to enable.
- Turn on Content Moderation so posts must be approved before appearing. Go to Settings (gear icon) > Content > Moderation > Manual (all). If moderation is enabled, you will need to actively review and approve new posts as students add them to your Padlet.

How do I embed my Padlet in Canvas?
Before you embed your Padlet into Canvas, make sure you've configured your privacy settings correctly to allow your students to add content to your Padlet.
1. Click Share.
2. Scroll down and under Share, select Embed in your blog or your website.
3. When the Embed this Board slideout opens, select one of the three options (Embed board, Embed preview, or Embed slideshow) and click on the Copy button to copy the embed code.
4. Next, go to your Canvas course and navigate to the page where you want to add your Padlet. Click on the page's Edit button in the upper right hand corner. Then in the rich content editor, 1.) Click on the Insert in the upper left row of the toolbar. Then choose Embed from the drop down menu.
5. When the Embed window opens, paste the Padlet embed code into the box and click Submit. 
Make sure you also click Save on the page before you exit.
★ Please note: Any changes you make to your Padlet after embedding it in Canvas will be automatically updated. You don't have to re-embed.
How do I change my Padlet format?
After creating a Padlet, if you decide to switch to a different format, say from a Wall to a Shelf or Timeline, click on the Settings (gear icon).
Scroll down under "Layout," and select a new option under Format.

What if students have trouble adding content to Padlet in Canvas?
If your students report being unable to add content to your Padlet, first double check that your privacy settings are correct.
If your privacy settings on your Padlet are correct, encourage your students to always interact directly with Padlet by opening the board in a new window.
Here is some example language you can use and adapt. We suggest you put it at the top of the page where you have embedded your Padlet:
Option 1: Embed board
For this exercise, we will be posting to a Padlet board. Our Padlet board is displayed below and is intended for viewing purposes only. To write on the Padlet, click on the arrow box icon in the upper right corner to open the board in a new window and then click the ‘+Post ’ icon in the bottom right corner to type your entry.
Option 2: Embed preview
For this exercise, we will be posting to a Padlet board. To write on the Padlet, click on the board to open in a new window and then click the ‘+Post ’ icon in the bottom right corner to type your entry.
