About this Course
This course prepares students to work with clients of diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Students will explore the strengths and limitations of聽differing approaches to聽thinking about聽socio-cultural processes聽and therapy, including聽working with models of intersectionality, explanatory models of illness, the DSM's Cultural Formulation Interview, indigenous psychologies and psychologies聽of liberation. Through dialogue聽and reflection, students聽will develop a deepened awareness of their own socialization, potential biases, implicit values聽and beliefs about mental health, healing,聽illness and afflicted persons.
