Becoming a Federal Scientist

Capitol Hill EcoDistrict Intern

The is a community-driven effort that promotes a socially equitable, environmentally resilient, and culturally vibrant neighborhood. We are committed to creating a neighborhood rich in cultural identity that promotes climate justice and is inclusive and diverse with accessible open space. As an EcoDistrict Intern, you will work on projects surrounding public life, stormwater infrastructure, biodiversity, arts and cultural preservation, food security and more.

Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) Fellowships and Internships

Fellowships and internships with CCL are enriching learning experiences working with expert staff and volunteer leaders. Fellows and interns at CCL go onto top graduate schools and careers in environmental, political, or nonprofit fields. Fellowships are paid positions and internships are volunteer. Fellowships tend to go to students with more experience and education. 

City of ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø Internships

The City of ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø is hires PAID summer undergraduate and graduate interns across all majors! Work for departments such as ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø City Light and gain professional experience in topics such as recycling, composting, community programing, communication, city planning and more. 

Community Roots Housing

Community Roots Housing embraces community-led development and engages in deep-rooted partnerships to foster vibrant, equitable communities where everyone has access to safe, affordable and welcoming homes. As of February 2022, they are looking for a paid intern that will be tasked with supporting Capitol Hill EcoDistrict staff on a range of projects, which may include public life planning, pesticide reduction and habitat planning, arts and cultural preservation, and a school-based health center.  

Earth Economics

Internships offer the opportunity to gain practical, real world experience in ecological economics. Interns work directly with project leads to support a broad range of efforts, from research and GIS analysis to business support and communications. Both graduate and undergraduate students eligible for work-study are encouraged to apply. All internships are unpaid, but positions to in-state financial aid work study recipients or in- or out-of-state (or country) volunteers are available. 

ECONorthwest

ECONorthwest, the largest economics consulting firm headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, is offering paid positions for undergraduate and graduate students. Duties will include: research, data collection and analysis, literature reviews, presentation preparation and report writing. 

Environment Washington

Environment Washington is hiring full time, paid staff in its ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø Office. Environment Washington is a statewide, citizen funded environmental advocacy group, dedicated to protecting Washington's air, water, and public lands. Environment Washington also offers internship opportunities to students looking to make a difference in the environment. 

Glacier Peak Institute Summer Internships & AmeriCorps Positions

has annual summer internships and staff positions, as well as year-long AmeriCorps opportunities. Work in a variety of fields including education, outreach, forestry and recreation! Not looking for a job commitment? They also have short-term volunteer opportunities.

Green ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø Day

Volunteers can help plant the future forest of our city in parks across ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø. The Green ħ¶¼×ÊÔ´Íø Partnership looks to engage more than 1,000 volunteers across the city, and in just three hours volunteers will plant thousands of native trees and shrubs. National Park Service Internships

Post-Landfill Action Network

The Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN) in Dover, NH is a nonprofit network of students working towards zero waste on college campuses. They are seeking students with a passion for creating a more sustainable world to apply for open positions.

Student Conservation Association

Whatever your environmental passion, Student Conservation Association (SCA) has an internship that will give you the opportunity to work closely with a partner agency or organization to get firsthand experience in the field. SCA internships include thousands of unique opportunities to gain hands-on conservation and sustainability experience all across the country. SCA interns are placed individually with a partner agency for three to 12 months.  

Summer Field Internships (Ecological Society of America and USGS)

If you've taken a class with a field component (including, but not limited to, Ecology, Plant Systematics, Marine Biology, Invertebrate Zoology, & other classes in EVST), you may be qualified. Your professors in these classes would be ideal folks to ask to nominate you.

Washington Public Research Group's (WashPIRG) goal is to find common ground around the common sense solutions that will make that future a reality. The problems we address aren’t progressive or conservative, they’re just problems our country should no longer tolerate in an age of great abundance and technological progress. WashPIRG also offers internship opportunities to students looking to solve problems in America. 

WA State Legislative Internship Program

This is a perfect position for someone interested in policy, politics and justice.  This intense quarter-long internship program places interns with legislators during the Legislative session (our Winter Quarter). Earn course credits and a monthly stipend of $2,400.
